"Had my M54 head resurfaced w/ a valve job. Honest and fast has been running great after install! I had a timing issue when I installed it and wondered if I bent a valve... I brought it back for a check and they didn't charge me! Hard to find a shop like this these days! Thanks again guys!"

"What can I say about this shop and Clay, the owner? To back up a little I’ve been looking for someone to do the machine work on my 1970 z28 engine. I had talked to several other shops that were both astronomical in price and couldn’t give me a solid timeline for completing the work. One even argued with me as to what work I wanted done! I went to Joe’s engine shop and talked to clay (the owner). He’s friendly, Easy going, has all the proper equipment to build a high quality racing motor, and was perfectly fine with the planned machine work. His price was significantly cheaper than the other guys and said drop it off in two weeks and see you a few weeks later. I had to scramble to get stuff there when he wanted it and he was quick to get some shop guys to help carry everything in. As promised, everything was done exactly to the date he committed to. He even called a few days ahead to let me know that he was on track. Also called me a week earlier to discuss the balancing procedure to ensure we were both on the same page (we were). In the end the work quality was superb! Clean, neat, obvious attention to detail as well as finished on time and at his estimated price. If you want quality machine or engine work, you won’t find anyone better!"

Integrity and Quality

"More projects with Clay at Joe's Engine Shop. Had the infamous valve seat drop situation on my 2001 Jeep 4.7 liter, seat ran through the engine and put a beating on it. I bought quality parts and had Clay's team rebuild the bottom end. Awesome! Ran into some funding issues and went with an online source for cylinder heads, to get the vehicle finished. HUUUGGGGE mistake! Should have waited. The difference, in hide, site was not substantial. The replacement heads (not Clay's work) dropped a valve seat at 9000 miles. Caught it before it broke loose completely, pulled heads, brought them to Clay. Turns out the heads I had purchased never should have been rebuilt in the first place. They were grossly undersized, machined way below minimum spec and had already had valve seats replaced at least once and poorly done. Clay is looking at my original mangled heads to see if they can be saved. Clay also saved my bacon on a Mini Cooper head that dropped a valve seat. A lot of folks don't like working on these, but Clay took good care of me and made it so that my friend could keep his vehicle. With a shop like Joe's Machine Shop near by, the engine rebuild jobs are starting to stack up."
